GK Session: Footwork, Handling, Crosses
In this Goalkeeper session, we aim to sharpen some of the essential tools for our GK.
1. Footwork into Handling (5 reps, 2 sets for both yellow and red)
- Shuffle between the cone in any pattern you like, generating power and ensuring control over whole body actions, into a set and save.
2. Low Ball Recovery (5 reps, 3 sets)
- Either on knees or standing, coach throws a ball to one side, GK catches, releases the ball and is down for a low shot on the other side.
3. Variety of Crosses (10 reps, 2-4 sets)
- High crosses, driven crosses, awkward crosses, mishit crosses, cross-shots. Ensure high communication, claiming, decision-making, eyes on the ball, protect your body.
4. Hand-eye Co-ordination (8 reps, 2 sets)
- GK to sit with hands just under his bum, throw a ball underhand towards them, and they must react in time to catch (build up the intensity).
5. Turn and Face (8 reps, 4 sets)
- Cross comes in from one side, claim, release the ball and get set for a shot from central/half space.
